Remember the Fallen

Mississippi’s fallen now number 40. With serious allegations swirling about service members murdering innocent civilians in Haditha, I have to wonder if the deaths of these men and the thousands of innocent civilians who have also been killed has been worth it.

GOVERNOR TUCK STILL HAS A NICE RING TO IT

Haley Barbour’s political future is still dangling precariously over a precipice of souring public opinion. It is now time for somebody to push him off. Time is of the essence. Encourage her by whatever means you can to push Haley off the edge. The numbers are there. She needs to find 50,000-75,000 committed white female voters that are tired of paying the highest grocery tax bills in the nation. There are thousands of mothers and fathers willing and able to provide new leadership to Mississippi if they are simply asked. Click on the link to the right for Amy Tuck and tell her to prepare herself to run for Governor.

OPPOSITION TO BARBOUR AT 43%, White Support Slips

The opposition to our favorite corporate whore has jelled nicely at 43% according to the latest SurveyUSA poll this month. That constitutes a substantial pool of voters to draw a primary challenge from. All one has to do is draw carefully from the large well of discontent that surrounds him and threatens to destroy his Administration.

I’ve said it before and it bears repeating. Add up the Grocery tax bill between now and June of 2007 and then ask yourself if any politician is worth that much too ya.

I would wager to guess that there are thousands willing to toss his behind out of the Governor’s mansion if they are reached by that message. CNN reported in the last election that according to exit polls, 77% of whites voted for Barbour. According to SurveyUSA’s latest data, the Governor is polling 66% approval among white voters. His rotundity is vulnerable to a challenge in the GOP primary for sure.

He should be afraid, very, very, afraid.

HALEY’S WHORE

Senator Charlie Ross is beginning to make the early rounds in the race to succeed Amy Tuck as Lt. Governor. It is my private feeling that he sees the position as a step on the ladder toward becoming Governor and that he is willing to do anything to get there, including becoming Haley Barbour’s Whore. The early money in this contest seems to be going to him because he has already prostituted himself to the right wing business community by rubber stamping the Governor’s corporate agenda which is inimical to the intrests of the people. In my mind, it should be an excellent fit of convenience. He should be aggressively challenged in the primary by someone who is willing to put the interests of the people first by repealing the sales taxes on groceries, the highest in the nation and by being an independent voice for the people, not the Governor’ s political concubine.

TUCK-BURTON 2007

What Good will it do for Amy Tuck to defeat Haley Barbour for the GOP nomination for Governor if she doesn’t have a partner in power in the State Senate who will work with and push her agenda? None whatsoever so I’ve inaugurated the following ticket in hopes that we can get this party started right. Senator Burton is the right man for the job. He is courageous and forward thinking, most importantly, he supported the repeal of the highest cigarette taxes in the nation over the Governor’s veto. The corporate whore in the Governor’s Mansion needs a new line of work outside of Jackson, Mississippi.

Chocolate City Mayor Re-elected

The chocolate city has shot itself in the foot by re-electing Ray Nagin, an unnecessarily polarizing demagogue. With 52% of the vote, Nagin defeated Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, brother of Senator Mary Landrieu, and son of former Mayor Moon Landrieu, the last white Mayor of New Orleans. Nagin has an enormous job ahead as he tries to rebuild a tattered city with battered self-esteem. The people seem bruised and bloodied and will need a Mayor up to the challenge. Let’s hope for all their sakes that he is.

Bush on Immigration: between a rock and a hard base

The President’s address last night was nothing more than a hail mary pass with his hard right base in mind. It failed miserably. Without sounding the alarm of invasion and aggressively moving to deport millions and secure our borders, they will never be satisfied. Continued political hegemony past the 2006 and beyond mandates that Latino Americans be courted assiduously by the GOP. The massive immigrants rights demonstrations of the past weeks galvanized the Latino community for change as never before. No compromise will mollify those on either side. He is truly between a rock and a hard base.

CNN POLL: People favor Bubba over Bush 2 to 1

Christmas has come early for the Democrat Party in the form of a poll that tells us that by a two to one margin, the people prefer Bubba over George W. Bush. They rated the philanderer-in-chief higher than Bush on the economy, foreign affairs, natural disasters, and solving the problems of ordinary americans. The real kicker for me is that they also believe that the first adulterer is more honest than W. This leads to only one conclusion : the empire is crumbling and Hillary Rodham Clinton is a President in waiting.

SONNY MONTGOMERY 1920-1986

Mississippi has lost a giant public servant who used his power for the good of all people. He sent millions of veterans to school and provided mortgage loans for their families. An advocate of veterans for the whole of his congressional career, he stood tall on their behalf while rising to the rank of brigadier general in the reserves. His grace and gentle persuasion will be missed in the halls of power where pettiness and partisanship reign.

PRESIDENT JEB!, HELL TO THE NAW

As much as we all love the forthrightness and solidity of the Bush Clan, we really don’t need another one of their number in 2008 to headline the ticket for obvious reasons. The President’s touting his brother’s bonafides recently struck me as tone deaf and wrongheaded. 31% approval is certainly not a place from which Jeb needs an endorsement from Brother President.
